How I use Halloween Costumes All Year Long ~ thanks Oriental Trading!

Okay who would have guessed that I would be an actress, nurse, star singer, mom and comedian all wrapped up in one job! Well, that is how I feel most of the time ~ especially the being on stage part! The best part ~ the kiddos love it and they even think I am a good singer and artist! :)

Sooo... I want to tell you how I use Oriental Trading costumes in my classroom ~ soooo much fun!

I start out with some Minnie Mouse ears when I teach minnie lessons - the students know this is a very short lesson that is very important! so I need to wear my Minnie Mouse ears to prove my point, right?

Here is Eryn, my teaching partner!

Then I put on my Hawaiian lei to let them know I am with students helping them learn to read in our guided reading groups ~ they can not disturb me when I have my special lei on!

We get into very serious business come the 50th day of school. My mom actually made me a poodle skirt...but I needed a special  Fifties wig to finish off the look! We are rocking and rolling by the 50th day.

Now... I am not too sure if the 100th day of school is my best look but the kids have so much fun(I tell them I am my Grandma ~ 5 year olds believe every word)...

This is pretty hilarious - right? Well, we added a gray wig from Oriental Trading to make us even funnier this year!

Now, the Gingerbread Man comes to visit in December, along with so many gingerbread activities! One activity we do is label our gingerbread man with adjectives. Well, how fun it is to label your
teacher!

Have you ever read the 5 Little Snowman Poem? -
you need this snowman costume to top off your performance!! (My favorite costume)

Just like us, the kinders love to dress up too ~ so they wear construction hats when we do STEM activities and build as engineers! The kiddos love this and they can not wait to wear their hats!

There are so many fun Halloween costumes you can find at Oriental Trading along with fun Halloween toys too! If you are looking for some more great FREE  ideas for your classroom and/or home you can visit this Halloween Oriental Trading site

We believe in making learning fun, and memorable! If you do something in your classroom or at home using costumes to enhance learning, we would love to hear about it!

Disclaimer: I will be compensated for this post but all of my remarks are my opinion.

Fall Writing & a Freebie!

Happy Fall! Fall is such a beautiful time of year and the kindergartners are starting to get the hang of school! at this time we also do a lot of apple activities. We taste the different colored apples, we graph which one is our favorite, we learn about Johnny Appleseed, we sort them into like piles. But I have to say their favorite activity is to use their painted apples to stamp onto paper.  We then take this paper and create leaves out of them. It is amazing how beautiful they turn out. Then the leaves are added to our tree out in the hallway but not until we write about our favorite fall activity.

Here is our hallway tree!

For our writing activity we first brainstorm. What are activities we can do in the fall?

Write down their ideas with a picture.

Here is an example filled out.

They they can write out their response.

They then glue their response onto a leaf and add it to the fall tree. They love looking at their tree in the hallway.  For your free copy, click here or click on the cover.
