Happy New Year Blog Hop!

Hi Friends, Gloria here to say Happy New Year to all of our friends out there! We are definitely grateful for all of you - 2014 was a wonderful year for us!
2015 is here and it is going to be a great year too! To start the new year off right, we have some freebies and some fabulous discounted products to tell you about and by the way, they are (50% off during the hop) January 1st through the 5th! Yeah!

Here at 2 Scoops, we are busy getting ready for our second half of our school year! It is the time of year when you really see a huge jump in the kiddos understanding and they GROW by leaps and bounds.
It also is a time of year sometimes they don't get to go outside because of the weather, sooo we need to use everything we have to keep them engaged and learning. (Hopefully all of our teacher friends out there have had a relaxing break!)

One way I engage my students in Math is to use everyday stories they can relate to. My January Addition & Subtraction Story Problems does just that but with another added piece ... a BIG way to keep their interest is to use their names when you are reading the math story problems. You will see them jump up and say "Hey that's me, or wow that's Sophia!" ... they will pay attention, believe me! Here is a peek ..... not only do they figure out the story problem answer but they use all the different strategies to do this.  I have included an example page for your students to see a model of what this looks like.

Here is where you can personalize your story problems.....

I also know that teachers are so busy this time of year so this product can also be print & go too.
There are 10 addition and 10 subtraction story problems (January related) ready for your class. I hope your class enjoys this as much as mine does! :)

Happy New Year from Rick! Here is an activity that will definitely have your students soooo excited! It's the Build a Bear Project with the Happy New Year Bear included! This is a fun way to get them back into the school year. Your students can choose and create their very own Build-a-Bear! My class did this last year and loved it.....so we can't wait to do this again! This year Rick has added all different pieces of clothing that your students can choose to make their bear their own. Here are some examples from Rick's class below.

Along with this is a freebie your students can use to write about their bear, click below:

Another freebie to get your New Year rolling is our Roll & Record Sight Words!

Don't forget 50% off on both of these products but only during the hop and then they will go back to full price. Thank you so much for visiting!
Make sure to keep the hop going and visit our sweet friend Sebrina at Burke's Special Kids

Happy New Year bulletin board & a freebie!

Okay, I admit it - I am already thinking about what I need to do when I get back to school!
These are a few things on my list, I change their name tags( they have gotten pretty shabby), I give them some new crayons (Isn't it amazing how they disappear), New seating(they get excited about the possiblities of who might be at their table) and put up a new bulletin board full of their goals for the year to come. Here is one from the past. It turns out so cute, I do this every year! We have a little celebration and think about what our new year has in store for us and what we still need to accomplish! Most of them think about their writing or counting and come up with some pretty goals for themselves. Then the hard part is how are they going to accomplish their goals and how we can all help each other.

I have a freebie for you if you would like to also have your students do this.
Best wishes to you and your students!

It's Build-a-Bear Time!

When we set up for our build a bear day, it is always as exciting for me as the students!  It always amazes me how the children can take so many steps and put it all together to end up with such a detailed and fantastic result!  I have organized this in so many different ways but this year our Bilingual kindergarten teacher gave me a few tips that really worked.  She had all her students pick the pieces they wanted to build the bear.  After choosing them, she stapled them into a packet that the students then used like a coloring book until all the coloring was finished.  As a second part of the lesson, the children then cut out all the pieces and assembled the bears.  Remember that if you color with crayons, use liquid white glue so the parts stay together.  When I have used a glue stick with crayons, there was a tendency for them to fall apart if the crayon was applied heavily.  I also love to use the finished bears as a story starter.  This year we are even going to use them to make an iMovie!  Check out the photos below!

Holiday Lights

Happy December!
During the month of December, we decorate the hallways with our student's writing - but in a fun way.
Students write about their Holiday wish. They are always pretty funny what they wish for! Pretty sweet too!
My holiday wish is to play in the snow.

My holiday wish is to be a grown up!
