Using QR codes in the classroom

As teachers we are always looking for new ways to engage our students. We are fortunate to have ipads in our classrooms and I know others do too.
I have been noticing QR codes are popping up all over the blog world and  was curious about them, but didn't know if I had time to figure out how to go about making them.

So...I jumped in and here is a step by step process that I went through.  It is a pretty easy process once you get started.
You need to first download the QR Reader app which is free on to your ipads.

Hope this helps if you are interested.  Have you found other ways to create and use QR codes? Click here for your copy.

Daily 5 - Work on Writing

In the kindergarten room this week we introduced Work on Writing!  Three years ago before our school introduced the Daily 5, my students would moan every time I said we were going to write.  I left sentence starters for them and they only had to finish the sentence.  By the end of the year I was very happy to see them write 2 sentences in a row and for some one sentence was huge.  So..... when work on writing came along I was not sure how this would go over.  Well, as you can see I am a HUGE fan.  By the end of last year my class was writing stories - beginning, middle and end!  (Of course there were a few who still struggled and needed support) but I am talking about the majority of students!  Ok..so here are some pics of our day yesterday as we launched into our first day of having the choice to work on writing! Do you use the Daily 5 and how has it worked for you?

Along with pencils, paper, markers & crayons for her students, she also received a new Kindle Fire HD, digital camera, a chair and more through "A Day Made Better Program". Thank you for supporting education and our schools, Office Max!

Manners Poem

Manners Poem
Every morning our school says the Pledge of Allegiance together.  The kindergartners have done a great job reciting that every day.  I have added another step into our daily routine and that is to say the Manners Poem.  I try and reinforce good manners at school and being kind to one another.  We try and build problem solvers and an atmosphere of acceptance and forgiveness.  Of course, if you have been in a kindergarten classroom we all know that these skills need to be reinforced daily because tattle telling is big at this age. (this one did this and that one did that....) Here is the poem we say, that the children love!   I don't know who the author is, so if anyone knows, please let me know. Click here for your copy.
